25 Famous Logos with Hidden Messages

We are bombarded with logos everyday wherever we go. There on the products we use on a day-to-day basis.

They are on packaging, on our TV screens, the magazines we reads and on the billboards we drive past.

Some of them are etched on our brains forever. Think of McDonald’s ‘golden arches’ and Windows logo. Obviously it’s all done intentionally by the big brands and corporations, because they want their logo shoved in our face as much as they can. But they also go a step further and hide subliminal messages in their logos.

Some are so clever and well-hidden that you would never had noticed. however today we have a list of 25 well-hidden messages hidden in famous logos.

    Le Tour de France

Can you see the cleverly hidden bike, cyclist and the reference to the leader’s yellow jersey?

    Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

A very clever use of negative space wouldn’t you agree? Can you see the gorilla and lion?

    Amazon

First of all you can see a cheeky grin, but notice that the arrow goes from a- z!

    Beats

At first glance you think it’s a lower case ‘b’, but then you notice it’s a round head wearing headphones.

    Hyundai

This clever logo symbolises two people shaking hands and is known as the “stylized picture”.

    Gillette

Notice the ‘G’ and ‘i’ which look like they’ve been cut with a razor maybe?

    Ray-Ban

The ‘B’ at closer inspection becomes a pair of sunglasses.

    Kölner Zoo

Another clever zoo log, this time the negative space on the elephant show a rhino and a giraffe and also a cathedral.

    Cisco

The lines above the logo symbolise the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco where the tech company was founded.

    Tostitos

If you excuse my language for a second, but the letter “tit” depicts two people sharing a bowl of salsa.

    London Symphony Orchestra

I really like this clever logo. The initials “LSO” look like a conductor.

    Yoga Australia

The negative space between the yoga instructors leg and arm is the shape of Australia.

    Toblerone

This is one you’ve probably already seen before. There is a hidden dancing bear in the mountain, which is the symbol for the Swiss town of Bern (The City of the Bears) where the chocolate was originally made.

    Spartan Golf Club

Now this is clever. The swinging golfer also becomes a Spartan soldier wearing a helmet.

    FedEx

This is another of those logos you probably already know about. But if you don’t the negative space between the ‘E’ and ‘x’ is an arrow.

    Eighty 20

If you know anything about binary codes then you can see the binary pattern above the text displays 1010000 and 0010100, which is eighty and twenty.

    Galeries Lafayette

Look closer. Can you see the Eiffel Tower formed by the two ‘t’s?

    Big Ten Conference

Big Ten faced a dilemma a while back when they expended to be 11 colleges, and so incorporated ’11’ into their logo.

    Goodwill

A cute smiley face is actually hidden in the ‘g’,

    Chick-fil-A

Maybe not so hidden, but can you see the Chicken in the ‘C’.

    Museum of London

The Museum of London’s logo show the ever expanding city since it’s founding.

    Coca-Cola

Nobody knows why there is a hidden Danish flag in the logo for Coke and it worked well when selling the sweet drink in Europe advertising campaigns.

    Hershey’s Kisses

This one is not easy to notice, but can you see the Hershey’s Kiss in between the ‘K’ and ‘I’.

    The Guild of Food Writers

Nice one. A cleverly placed spoon in the pens nib.

    And finally Pinterest

Of course the ‘P’ would symbolise a pin!

Animator’s Secret: How to Design a Cool Female Character

Who was your favourite cartoon character as a kid? No doubt that question brings back memories of your childhood and maybe your favourite episode or adventure of the animated lead.

But here is an interesting follow-up question, was this character male or female? If you think of the classic characters you may think Homer Simpson, Mickey Mouse, Popeye or Fred Flintstone. Yet just as important to the storyline are their opposite numbers: Marge Simpson, Minnie Mouse, Olive Oyl and Wilma Flintstone, adding a female perspective as a contrast to the often less thought out actions of the male character.

But what about female leads? Despite a handful of examples, Eliza Thornbury, Betty Boop, Mulan and Wonder Woman for example, there are very few female leads in popular animation, but with very little reason.

When it comes to creating a character, the first decision you may tackle is whether they should be male or female. This may seem trivial, but getting the right gender for the character can mean the difference between hitting messaging with precision or completely missing the mark.

Choosing to use a female character brings a huge number of benefits and lets you work a number of different angles that can often be missed in traditional animation. This article has been created to help you understand how to develop an animated female character and where they can be used.

    Educate and Entertain

Using a cartoon ‘hand drawn’ type of animation is another great way to incorporate a female character into your brand. This can add a familiar visual impact, similar to those of old-school cartoons. Again this is a great way to explain a message or to work through an educational situation that can help people learn about a given subject.

This has been used countless times in education, from animated explainer videos in schools through to the Horrible History children’s books. One good example of where this has been applied is in projects where a serious message needs to be communicated to children in a fun way.

Take a look at this case study of a educational video series that needed to be created to educate children about the history of engineering. The female character is used to generate a fun counter to the male character, adding this element of comedy as well as using mix of genders means the episodes are likely to appeal more to a variety of child viewers.

    Ani-tising

Not only can an animated female character be used in explainer videos, but they can also be used to add a fun, friendly, sometimes provocative vibe to advertising. A female character used across advertising is likely to appeal more widely to a diverse audience.

This can be applied well to appeal to primarily female audiences when your product is focused on that particular market, for example female clothing or beauty products or where your brand is hoping to expand into that market.

One great example of where advertisers have caught onto the potential power of female animated characters is the introduction of Ms Brown to and M&M’s adverts. The addition of this character has let M&M’s appeal to a new and previously untapped market.

    Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGKZY2DvEUo

    Serious Business

The animations from the past decades will bring back memories of funny adventures and silly voices, such as the mishaps of Wile. E Coyote or Daffy Duck’s articulation disorder but animation doesn’t have to mean ridiculousness. In fact using animation to communicate a serious message can work incredibly well; this is partly due to the removal of human emotion from the equation and allowing the animation studio to focus solely on communicating the key message in hand.

One example of where ‘serious cartoons’ have worked very well are with explainer videos, especially those that are used to explain new products, services or businesses. These are prevalent on platforms such as Kickstarter, you can take a look at one example here. This video shows well where female characters can be used to explain a product; these are based on the real life owners of the business. By creating animated videos of them means that both money is saved on expensive production as well as being able to add more colour and liveliness to the video.

We have also seen this work very well in this example of explainer video where a female character is used to tell part of a brand message. Here we see a female character used alongside a male character to tell an important story that a brand wants to communicate. This works well as the mix of characters appeal to a wider audience.

    Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9OJzwu7Ay4

As we can see using a female animated character can be used in a variety of situations to add a different point of view, different strengths and more varied approach to explainer videos, adverts and educational content. By considering the different aspects of the target audience you can judge whether the content would benefit from a female character and how they should appear and act in that content.

5 Fashion Hacks That Will Add a Creative Twist To Your Outfits

Fit, fabric and style are key factors that make or break an outfit.

Keeping your attire polished will surely keep you at the top of your style game. However, keeping it too ‘put together’ can make you look part of a flock – especially if you work in a corporate environment – even though you may have you little quirks that you do not mind sharing with the world.

    So, what should you do?

Simple. Think out of the box; since you need to do it at work or school, might as well utilise it to your daily outfits too.

    Colour empowerment

Believe it or not, colours are magical. It affects our energy and mood. It also reflects us as people as the colours we choose for ourselves are usually based on our personal preferences, experiences, upbringing, culture and context. The easiest way to incorporate creative colours into your outfit is by introducing coloured accessories.

Instead of a black or white pair of socks, consider wearing a pair in a colour that will make you feel happy. Not only will it put a spring in your step but also give other people a surprise when they talk to your feet. For a bolder statement, try wearing a pair of spectacles with a hint of colour in the frames.

    Pins and patches

They say ‘bigger is not always better’ and we agree; instead of putting on big statement earrings and necklaces, try customising your looks with smaller pins and patches. Adding pins and patches on your clothes is a great way to create a look that is uniquely you. Think of them as your personal quirky stamp on your outerwear, bags and shoes.

However, less is more when it comes to this hack because it can be easy to go overboard with this one. Refrain from overcrowding your clothes with a mishmash of pins and patches; curate them and pick a theme that best expresses yourself.

    Turban

There is a power that you possess when you wear a turban; you will instantly stand out from the crowd. Case in point: Kate Moss at the Met Gala. It exudes old Hollywood glamour much like Joan Crawford and Gloria Swanson. It is also a great alternative to headscarves for women who choose to cover up their hair following the latest modest trends and styles.

Non-hijabi women can also rock this fashion statement as there are so many other creative ways you can wear a turban. It adds a little exotic touch to any outfit and make you seem like a worldly traveller.

    Monograming

Monograming your belongings is an old school practice but it just screams classy that it is hard to ignore. Monogramed items are also great keepsakes that you can hand down to the next generation; so be mindful of what you choose to engrave your initials on i.e. items that lasts (leather bags and jewellery) with classic monogram fonts.

However, if you want to be more current, there is nothing wrong with personalising your own things. Better still, if you are creative enough to design your own initials so that you have a more modern monogram!

    Quirky purses

Inject a little creativity to your plain outfit with a quirky purse; it is the easiest way to stand out of from the crowd without going crazy with your clothes. Not only will your outfit be trendy, but it will also be unique as a quirky purse can reflect your personality. Some great quirky purses include House of Hello Kelly’s Big Eyes leather handbags, Kate Spade’s Camera Crossbody Bag and Aranaz’s Piña T’nalak.

    Keep it to one

Injecting your personality is key in adding a creative twist to your outfits; think of your outfit as your personal brand’s billboard. The list above is not exhaustive; they are merely guidelines to keep your creative juices running.

However, do remember to use one hack per outfit. You do not want to take the focus out of the outfit; the additions should be enhancing your whole look not putting the spotlight onto them. We hope that these little surprises to your daily wear will make you feel awesome as you go about your day!

    20 Shocking Anti-Smoking Ads

It’s been over a month now and I have successfully stuck to my New Year’s Resolution, which was to finally to stop smoking. I didn’t want to wuss out either by doing it the easy way and switching to e-cigerettes/vaping, I wanted to kick the habit for good!

It’s been tough, but I think I can do this. I’m saving loads of money and the most important thing to think about is the health risks. Of course you would have to be stupid tho think that smoking wasn’t bad for you, but how do we get that message across to people? As a way of enforcing my resistance to nicotine I have been busy browsing anti-smoking ads and some of them out there are very powerful.

These ads are made to shock so I hope you will think twice before lighting up that next cigarette. Take a look for yourself.

    New York: Breathtaking Cityscapes

New York is arguably America’s greatest city, with everything pointing to it being the capital apart from the official title.

The city is the center of business with wall street, a cultural melting pot thanks to centuries as an immigration hub and also harbors two of the biggest sports franchises in the country.

Whether you’re a city dweller or country bumpkin you can’t deny the sheer human endeavor it takes to build a city of this size. It’s unique Manhattan island has forced buildings up and created a concrete jungle (where dreams are made of). It has been a haunt for the biggest artists in the world and its unique ability to inspire those living there has created incredible examples of human skill in the arts. None more so than with the photographers of the city who take photos of the immediate in front of them. New York kicks up some stunning photos.

Money, Money, Money, Its a Rich Woman’s World

It is a sad state of affairs that in 2017 the ten richest people on the planet are still all men, despite them making up only 50% of the population.

While there has been progress, the progress is slow and there are still plenty of battles out there for women to get the payment they deserve. Which is at least equal to that of men.

It is not as if women are not entrepreneurial. Women hold some of the most powerful offices in the world (Theresa May), are the biggest stars in the world (Beyonce) and have immense wealth (Oprah). But in a male driven world where the arenas of business where money lies are full of men high on testosterone it is easy to understand why not more women take the hardened route to success. Most of the world’s richest people are in heavy industry or technical areas where men will make it unsuitable for a woman to work.

While we can lament these slow changes and gender inequality there are still those women out there willing to take the flack and men head on to make their way in the world. There are a plethora of women who exceed most men and show that they are just as capable in achieving wealth and success. So here is a selection of the richest women in the world right now and how they made their fortune to give you hope that it is not all doom and gloom in 2017.

    10. Massimiliana Landini Aleotti

Aleotti is one of the world’s richest women, with a fortune pegged at $10.1 billion through pharmaceuticals.

    9. Iris Fontbona

Chilean mining magnate Andrónico Luksic left the business to Fontbona, who has continued to generate massive amounts of wealth in her own right. She is worth $10.2bn.

    8. Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken

    Image result for charlene heineken

I am sure you can guess how Charlene has made the green. Her $12.3 billion is courtesy of her part in the family of famed brewers.

    7. Abigail Johnson

    Image result for abigail johnson

Abigail Johnson climbed the ladder at Fidelity Investments, to become president and CEO. Her estimated net worth is more than $13.1 billion.

    6. Laurene Powell Jobs

    Image result for laurene jobs

The widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, Laurene Powell Jobs in no slouch. She is incredibly well educated, having degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University. Jobs is also the largest single shareholder of Disney stock, which has helped boost her net worth considerably.

    Image result for susanne klatten

Susanne Klatten is the daughter of another woman Johanna Quandt. She owns almost half of BMW along with her brother and mother. Her net worth is estimated at $18.5 billion.

The Most Badass Japanese Women In Film and TV

Japanese characters have always fallen in to one or two camps.

Either they are exceptionally reserved or exhude confidence, independence and fighting prowess. It is not just the men either with these qualities. There are plenty of examples of Japanese female characters who showcase these skill just as well and in some cases better than the men themselves.

    Gogo Yubari (Kill Bill)

    Image result for gogo yubari

Gogo Yubari is the sidekick of Cottonmouth, better known as O-Ren-Ishi. She has become iconic for her costume as a Japanese schoolgirl because it is so juxtaposed to her violent nature. Wielding a lethal chain mace, she almost gets the better of Uma Thurman, but let’s be honest, the baddie never wins. Sigh.

    Misty

    Image result for misty

Misty was part of the original Pokemon anime series along with her ‘star’ Pokemon Staryu. She took no nonsense from Brock or Ash and was very much the calming presence within the group. Countering their macho bravado and hot headedness. This did not mean she could not fight herself. She became one of the best Pokemon trainers in the world inspiring girls involvement in the franchise. It is one of the things that made Pokemon Go so popular in 2016.

    San – Princess Mononoke

Image result for san princess mononoke

San was raised by Wolves and lives in a magical forest. If that is not marriage material then I don’t know what is. She is the saviour of not only a whole village but also the Prince who has to rely on San to save his life.

Chiyo Sakamoto (Memoirs of a Geisha)

    Image result for chiyo sakamoto

Chiyo’s story is the powerful tale of a woman who overcame all things that a man’s world can throw at her. Whether it was through social, military or financial strife, she showed her strength to get the man and life she wanted.

    O-Ren-Ishi

    Image result for Orenishi

Another character from Kill Bill. O-Ren was a half Japanese assassin who had one of the best introductions in any film ever, as her terrifying ordeal as a young girl was shown in anime style cartoon. Her character commanded over a large motorbike gang, while also being part of the deadly assassin team under Bill. Badass

    Katana (DC Comics)

    Image result for katana comics

Katana appeared briefly in Suicide Squad, but still managed to showcase what she was all about. She owns a sword that captures the souls of her victims. But the most badass part? The sword was used to kill her husband and he resides in the sword. Yes it is sad, but oh so cool.

10 Great Hair Hacks from the Pros

Looking for the perfect curls? There’s no doubt that you can achieve them with some high-quality flat irons!

However, if you want to take the no-heat route, read on!

No-heat curls that take less than 10 minutes? Yes, please! Check out the various methods below and you’ll have perfectly curled hair in no time–plus, no heat damage from your curling iron!

The first method is easy: braiding. It’s as simple as it sounds. After washing and conditioning your hair as usual, braid your damp hair into two pigtails. If you’re looking for tighter curls, opt for four braids instead. For a natural look, gently pull your braids apart to loosen them slightly. If your goal is loose waves, use one single braid down the back of your head. Let your hair dry (preferably overnight), then unbraid your braids and run your fingers through your hair for your final result.

Another method you can use is the twist curl method. First, towel dry your hair until it’s damp. Next, separate your hair evenly on both sides, parting it down the middle. Twist one half of your hair until it is tightly twisted into a bun, then use a clip to pin it in place. Repeat on the other side. Let your hair dry overnight, then take out the clips and shake out your curls.

One final method is to roll up your hair before you shower and take it down afterwards. The steam from the shower helps to lock the curls into place without using heat like a curling iron. After taking out these curls, you’re ready to walk out the door!

Here are 10 more hair hacks:

4 Methods of Tattooing from History

We’ve featured many posts about tattoos in the past, but we’ve never actually shown the many methods of tattooing. In this post we will look at 4 examples of tattooing throughout history.

So the first on our list will be the most common to the reader….

    Tattoo Machine

The tattoo machine works by having a needle thrust inside a tiny tube, powered by a motor, into the skin at hundreds of times per second. It is the quickest and arguably most accurate method. The artist can change the type of needle depending on what type of work is being done such as shading and outlining. While it is the easiest method tattoo artists have to hold a license in order to operate and handle one.

    tattoo machine

    Metal Tube

Metal tube tattooing is a forefather to the machine. It originates from the cultures of south-east Asia and was used to create Buddhist images and texts. With a similar principle to a tattoo gun the metal tube technique uses a tube, usually made of brass with a needle running through it. It is then dipped in ink and struck down manually into the skin much like a sewing machine.

    metal tube tattooing

    Bamboo Handle

The bamboo handle is perhaps most famous for the all body tattoos popular in Japan and with the Yakuza. It was also the method used in other nations such as China whose tribes would often create a parlour like experience with Erhu music playing (instead of heavy metal). The bamboo handle was a vicious instrument which has two dozen needles attached to one end. Unlike the other method where the needle would come directly down the bamboo artist would push under the skin at an angle. This meant it was not only more painful but also harder to create an image. Recipients would often require many sitting and considering full body was popular the process must have been never-ending.

    Bamboo tattoo

    Rake and Striking Stick

This technique originates in tattoo mecca of the south pacific and Polynesia. The needle would be at a right angle from the stick it was attached to. The striking stick would then hit the needle down into the skin puncturing and leaving the ink. This meant it was a two-man job with one person stretching the skin and the artist themselves. It is one of one of the oldest methods but has arguably made some of the most complex and beautiful tattoos.
